This is where you can upload images of your work and your essay/response to your creative process. You are all authors on this site so it should not be hard to paste something from your desktop. I am more interested in what you learned and how you explored over a finished product. A finished work is welcomed just not required.
Thank you one and all for sharing your thoughts and reflections.

James Brown Respecting my Elder
ReplyDeleteIn “Learning by Heart”, there was a quote that broke me out of my normal mode of creative thought: “The content of the object will not determine the success of my work.” This inspired me to attempt to apply my aesthetic interests to a new media. Much of what I love about art is reduction, repetition and the harnessing of elemental effects. In the visual arts, artists such as Van Gogh, O’keeffe and ultimately Mondrian. I also seek such expression in other creative media. In music form, I find similar use of elements in many different genres. One band in particular, Elder, uses both rich and sparse sound to create music that rips through a vibrant spectrum. At times there music is dense and intricate, but often the atmosphere grows hollow and drones deep into an abyss. For my project, I wanted to try and take some of the basic elements that Elder created and rearrange and alter them into a new experience. This is essentially what my visual artwork consists of, but instead of composing with lines, shape, texture, etc. I utilized the audible elements found within the song “ Spirit at Aphelion” from their album Lore. I have never attempted a work such as this and am not really comfortable to propose that it is my own creation. I guess a case could be made either way. I certainly would not present this publicly as my legal creation. In any case, I certainly enjoyed the creative process.

I think you can copy the link, paste it into your browser and it will take you to the audio file. If this doesn't work let me know and I'll try to link it a new way.

DeletePowerful music. I could feel the texture, shape, and lines. What software did you use to do this? Did you have to learn how to mix for the project or were you already familiar with the process?
DeleteI used Lexis Audio Editor to make the work. First I decided on three basic samples fro the original song. Each sample was just a few seconds. I wanted to grab specific sounds from the track that expressed the musical forms and colors I most enjoyed. The editor has a rather limited array of option for altering the samples. When assembling the part, I used repetition, juxtaposition, echoing, and fluctuations in pitch and tempo.
DeleteJames, very nice! I love music and sound. so I liked how you mixed sounds and manipulated them to express your ideas...thanks!
Deletecouldn't find it...is there a short cut ?

ReplyDeleteFuture, Because I couldn't figure out how to add a photograph to this post, I created my own post. Any suggestion by anyone else on how to do it?
ReplyDeleteyou did fine, after all each of you are authors
ReplyDeleteIn my creative project for this class, I made a small eco-art project. My motion picture is composed of some photos I took from the place I live right now. I also added a photo of earth from NASA’s website. In our readings, we explored artworks and teaching projects that engaged sustainability and environmental concerns. We also discussed how important is to create a sense of unity among people regardless of their differences. I think the theme of environment needs such feeling of unity. This is because the earth is our home, for all of us. As a teacher and an artist, I am also very concern about the way we humans are destructing the earth. For this project, I decided to make something simple about the planet. The motion picture starts from the image of earth that emerges from the darkness. Earth then is the source of life for all of use. Gradually the idea of life and light comes to my personal space and the place in which I live as an individual. The light of life then fades into the darkness again.

I was so inspired by the readings this semester. I wanted to take the important aspects, the writings that resonated with me, the words to remember and live by and put them all together artistically. I created a book with pages to hold the thoughts, feelings, practices, play, lessons, and assignments discovered and learned this semester in Pedagogy. I originally wanted to create little book putting into action all of Corita’s assignments but also want to add inspirations from other reads from this course for I feel they are all interconnected. Bookmaking is a love of mine for I love the process of creating a vessel to contain art, writing, and feelings. My passion for creating a cover and the pages within is just as profound as filling the pages with the beauty of words, imagery, and art. My purpose was to have each page created by my own hands using handmade paper techniques but time would not allow. My goal is still to create my own paper for this book and also to incorporate found paper. The beauty of my project/book is the process. Each page added in its own time representing a moment, an observation, a feeling.
